Hayden is 19 years old, bright-eyed, and almost always smiling. He is non-verbal and on the autism spectrum, with a cheerful, energetic spirit that fills every room he is in.

Having completed his education at MINDS, Hayden is currently at home while awaiting placement at a daycare centre. Conventional vocational pathways are not an option for him — but that has not stopped him from finding his own voice.

It was his mother who first picked up the brush. What started as a quiet activity between the two of them quickly revealed something unexpected: Hayden has a natural flair for painting.

Through colour and brushstroke, Hayden communicates what words cannot. Each piece he creates is a glimpse into how he sees the world — vivid, uninhibited, and entirely his own.
